Free sports picks are available almost everywhere. As a bettor, what value do you give to free picks? As a handicapper, what's the quality of the free picks that you give out?
Free betting picks are a great marketing tool for handicappers. We've all heard the stories of handicapping services giving one pick to half his potential clients and the opposite pick to the other half. That does happen, but I don't think it's very common. Most tipsters give out picks with good intentions in my opinion. Free picks are sort of a teaser for what you could have if you purchased all of the picks. With that said, if I were a handicapper I'd make sure my free picks were my best picks rather than my worst picks, because their success is likely the deciding factor for a potential client.
As a bettor, do you trust free picks to win? Obviously you have to trust the tipster, but even with trusting the tipster do you dismiss free plays as inferior plays that aren't worth playing?
If I was giving out free tips, it'd be the best of the best of my plays, I just wouldn't market them as the best. I have a feeling a lot of guys do the opposite of that.
Yeah, it seems like a lot of cappers give out free plays that they don't even give to their clients - plays that aren't good enough to make the card. Even if you are a dynamite capper that means your good plays are hitting in the 56 - 57% (-105) range, so why are you giving out a pick that is probably in the 52 - 53% range?
Very good point Reno. Giving out your best picks for free and then playing them down would be a great strategy. Then the followers have the mindset "if this guy does this well on his free plays, holy cow I can't imagine how good he is on the other plays." And that may sound deceitful, but I think it's a perfectly fair marketing practice.
I agree I hate giving out free picks that lose, makes me look bad, but it happens, and I would hope people will look at the whole picture and not base there feelings off of one pick, I know free picks build value and add to the reputation of the capper, I do not practise deciete nor run a scam, I cap games and hope for success, free or paid, but I don't give out 5 star plays for free, smaller games yes not major match ups I didnt give out my super bowl play for free , but I did give the Up and Down for free, and it won and my paid pick lost , who really knows, thats why we they play the game... but yes my free picks are games I think will end up as I say they will, if they don't sorry hopefully I provided others that will more than make up for it. I like this site, and I hope to provide some value to your readers , free or paid !!
From what I have seen, the majority of FREE PLAYS are leans that don't make the final card. Many of these touts use their leans as FREE plays since when they lose, they wont be held accountable on their official records that are being monitored, but on the flip side, if it wins, they market on their twitters, websites, facebook..."oh another easy winner".
Even look at the guys who post "FREE PICKS" here on line, when you look at their past plays and histories, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't want to be held accountable for their "FREE" stuff.
I made my picks at 9 am after capping my games, I made some where between 25 and 30 picks, at 12:30 or so I posted a free pick, looking at the trends and game I felt that I may have made a mistake and posted the Rangers as my play, I didnt use the same system I use to select my picks, just looked at the trends and past records and playoff implications and saw value in the Rangers so I posted the play. Never even crossed my mind that my system called for me taking the Islanders , which I did and backed it up w/ a straight up win, My free pick was based on trends not my system and I had no idea I played the Islanders, I even took the rangers w/ a co worker for a hundred bucks, at the end of the night I was suprised the Rangers lost in a shootout, but even more suprised that my system picked the correct winner, which I played and won. why would I post a free play that is going to lose ?? How does that help me ? Hope that clears things up a bit.
The system is to blame for the winner. We see but you are blamed of the error of chasing your tailing around like a child and hiding from any error.
If you said I made an error fine done. When you feel the need to defend it like a 15 y/o girl trying to defend a bad rumor and then say it was a mistake your creditability takes a hit.
Say it was an error and shut up about it and stop poluting the forum with excuses move on make your picks and end it.
I personally could careless but tired of seeing useless posts like the one above.
Thanks in advance for dropping the subject and just moving past whatever this was....
that doesn't clear up anything....I still maintain the opinion you are full of **** HOWEVER even if what you said was true then your free picks are worse than worthless. Here is my opinion on what is going on here....based on the fact the very first play you posed included a plagiarized write-up. So basically what you do is decide what side you will be giving as the free play and then put together some good-for nothing write-up that you didnt even use to get the pick just to comply with pick posting rules. I guess we shouldn't be surprised since you said that's exactly what you would do after you were called out.
