Why do teams get the losing streaks?

We all have those bad days once in a while when nothing goes our way. However what makes professional teams built with star players with million-dollar contracts get into the long losing streaks?

I still remember hot start for Detroit and then suddenly they could not score more than a goal and lost so many games in row, then we have Capitals hot start winning 7 games and suddenly they cant win anything.. Now Minnesota and Florida leading the league and then suddenly getting into 7 game losing streak. Same players, same season. What's different?

(lets leave the "key player got injured" reason aside, in most cases that is not the reason)

What makes teams get into those long losing streaks while other teams never get into them and always alter wins and losses (like Blackhawks)

  2. Team chemistry is the answer to this.
I'm not talking about players getting along, rather how well a group can play as a whole.
Young teams seem to have the biggest swings. When they are hot they are hot, otherwise winning a single game becomes a big task in itself.

When you have a confident team that is playing together unselfishly, you have a win streak.
Once a few pieces are taken away, or even some turning points such as a 3rd period collapse/4th quarter collapse is enough to alter the teams chemistry.
Also, how many times do we see a team on a losing streak make a great come back in game, then start playing with more energy and confidence? This happens all the time.

The longer a winning streak goes on, the less and less determined a team will get. They will expect to win and once they come across another team that they completely over looked and lose, reality kicks in.
Then if they lose again the next game, panic will set it and the chemistry is damaged.
