I am asking because obviously it seems the same but why is the price for -0.5 and pk different? doesn't make much sense

Would assume it has to do with overtime as that's how they work with hockey. +0.5 is voided if game goes to OT. Check the sports service agreement for basketball though.

That's what I was thinking too, that's how it works when betting the first half

huge difference between -0.5 and pk

you play -0.5 your team has to win , you lose if tied

you play pk your team has to win , you push if tied

Is there really a huge difference for basketball?

Either way you need the team to win, there is no difference. If the game heads into over time, the only difference is your team needs to win. <-- This sentence will puzzle some believe it or not.

I have had many pick em's and -0.5 NBA picks and a win is a win is a win is a win.

NLO is right. It's not the same for basketball as it is in hockey. You can take pk or -0.5 and it doesn't matter if it goes into overtime. There is no such thing as a tie in basketball. They will play as many OT periods as it takes to declare a winner.

It is strange as to why the odds would differ between a pick em and a +0.5/-0.5 line.

The same happens with soccer lines as discussed in an earlier thread. I guess the best odds are the true odds they have released. The lower odds are for the people that don't pay attention.

I don't know about soccer since a tie/draw is possible. But in basketball, if they offer me a +/-0.5 and pk, I'll take whatever is giving me better odds and thank them.

There's no ties in hockey anymore either. Are you certain that effectively a -0.5 in basketball doesn't turn the line effectively into a three way bet?

Basketball is only two way betting on spreads and totals unless you use a sportsbook like Bet365.com which has 3 way betting as well as the normal two way style.

If it does not say three way on the wager type, then it's the typical two way betting.

Alright, then I'm at a loss for what the difference is. You guys and your spread betting - how you keep all the information straight is beyond me. Best of luck guys.
